A thought communicated through words is a second-generation version of the original idea.  Once interpreted by someone else it becomes a third-generation idea.  Like recording over a cassette tape multiple times, the original loses clarity.  A copy of a copy, and so on.  The purpose of this series of paintings is reflective of my fascination with the deconstruction of communication.  Since I was young my ideas and thoughts have always fumbled out of my mouth and I rarely have heard myself explain what I originally thought fluently enough that I am satisfied to let a person walk away thinking they have a clear understanding what I was trying to say.  Even if it made sense, the interpretation is not necessarily what I intended.  Now imagine someone trying to explain what I said – it just gets worse (like the origin of rumors).  Better for me to not say anything at all.
Abstraction is the language of formal elements in painting– composition, line, color, etc.  The goal here (for me) is not to communicate a specific message, but to visually refer to unnamable images as something that appear correct; natural groupings of these elements.  Each painting says something that I cannot, but does not criticize my inability to explain it.
